Akhirnya Ange telah bawa spurs ke final eropa. Ada harapan untuk menang piala selepas tujuh belas tahun.

Arrive 22.2.2025

Mula tengok buku ini aku tertarik dengan dua benda yang berkaitan dengan hidup aku.

Pertama klang.

Klang ada tempat bermastautin aku yang paling lama selain perthlis dan jenan. Aku berada di daerah ni selama tiga puluh tahun. Lepas kahwin terus terlekat sini atas entah apa sebabnya. Aku masa di tingkatan pernah datang dulu dua minggu untuk program nadwah Sbp di kolej islam kelang. Semua anak aku pula lahir di sini. Mula2 aku duduk di taman bertek, lorong pak mahat, kampung sri pandan tepi railway keretapi dan akhirnya settledown  di taman andalas. 

Sekarang daerah ni tiba2 popular dengan nama kolumbia.

Kedua india dan chennai.

India adalah negara luar yang pertama aku pergi. Sebelum ni paling jauh aku pergi adalah sabah saja. Dan ini adalah assignment kerja luar negeri. Lama aku berperang dengan diri sendiri pasal assignment ni. Kenapa aku dan sebab apa. Aku rasa macam telah dipekena saja. Tapi akhirnya tuhan bagi ilham sebab apa aku tercampak sini dan aku berserah saja..

Chennai pula tempat aku duduk di apartment alwarpet seorang diri selama enam bulan terus menerus. Chennai atau madras  adalah Hq company kami yang di pindah dari delhi. Hanya aku sorang dari malaya bila arwah anwar batcha hanya bawa aku dan tinggalkan aku. dia resign dan terus balik walaupun ini adalah kampung asal dia. Aku kemudiannya terpaksa takeover dan uruskan team sini. Banyak yang aku tempuhi.

Aku juga berpusing-pusing melawat projek ke beberapa tempat lagi dengan macam2 mode transport. Naik flight dan keretapi dan juga travel dengan kereta.

Aku kemudiannya pergi lagi ulang-alik selama beberapa tahun sehingga aku pulak pindahkan Hq ke vijayawada. Setelah selesai pindah office, aku kemudiannya ke satu assignment lain di daerah Balkan yang pada masa itu baru sepuluh tahun selesai perang.

Banyak pengalaman fizikal dan rohani di sini.siapa yang hendak mengubah diri sendiri, datanglah sini. 

Cabaran yang sangat ultimate yang tidak terdapat di tempat lain.

Wallah

Why best manager failed

The sacking of famous manager, Maurinho at famous club MenU remind of ongoing projects which fail and looks nowhere to complete on time.

Scenario and reason of failure almost same. Jose was best manager in the world with best club in the world. They have expertise and money to progress but stuck.

When staff or players start didn't give their hundreds persen commitment, then performance will drop. It made worst when technical or tactical also didn't resolve or wrong.

Change team head was normal solutions taken by owners buat staff or players still the same.
As MenU case now they performed with new boss but same players.
Same case when i rescue few projects with same staff which finally completed.

But what we always lack was timing gor change. Sometimes damage already bad and very costly.

Awareness

Yesterday i experiance burst of water pipe that hit by sheetpiling works.
Eventhough it was already not that there was a pipe but lack of awereness before work start it resulted the pipe was hit.

Almost twenty years ago i experiance even worst. Main pipe supply from reservoir was burst and water go as high as 23 storey of building nearby.

Now everyday i worry what will happened to services underneath as team not really check details before work start.

Lost of skills

Project management concepts introduce by capitalist had made our construction industry lost their basics skills.

Pity my fellow head of site nowadays.

When nature give a lesson

Our recent flash flood had exposed few things.
Besides no regular maintainance on silt trap, silt fence and earth drain, outflow pipe also not installed properly as photo shown.
Look the way pipe was construct, the constructor and supervisor dont care weather it will function or not.
For them, work had completed and they dont bother what will happened next.
Yesteday nature had give us very good and costly lesson.

Flash flood

Construction area for highway construction always exposed to flash flood. It will become news if any of houses nearby affected by flood.
Contractor must have team to manage this and we had experiance this week.
This time during september and december in malaysia was monsoon season and it can be fatal to construction team if it not been handle properly.

Keciknya dunia

Hari ni pergi kenduri x-bumihiway Halim Saleh.
Dia pernah transit Di Gebeng selepas siap project Di serawak. Selepas sebulan dua Di Gebeng, dia ke project Gong Kedak ganti kapten.
Begitu keciknya dunia construction Di Malaya, sekarang anak dia Yang kahwin Hari ni berkerja Di project site ampang sekarang ni.

Dulu bapak nya bos, sekarang Aku Bo's anaknya.

Cerita dua Orang fresh enginiar

Hari ni teringat cerita dengan dua orang fresh enginiar Di Gebeng iaitu azmel Dan ridwan.
Keduanya Di bekalkan oleh company motosikal.

Entah kenapa dua Orang tu, keduanya langsung tak sentuh Moto. Elok ja parking Dalam lab mat zin.
Si azmel ni bila nak pergi site selalu tunggu Dan tumpang sapa2 Yang nak ke site. Kadang2 tumpang orang Fenki. Manakala si ridwan pulak guna kereta sendiri bila ke site.

Satu hari Abang Bhai panggil Aku Dan Tanya, kenapa dua fresh engineer tu selalu Ada Di office Dan tak guna Moto pergi site?
Aku jawap, saya pun tak tau tapi dah suruh Dan depa tak mau jugak.Kau panggil diaorang tengahari Hari ni, Kita jumpa.

Bila jumpa, macam 2 lah depa dua taici nak justified tak mau Naik Moto ke site.
Last sekali dia Tanya Aku, Kau dulu start kerja Naik apa? Aku jawab, motolah. Apalagi untuk fresh2 ni. Takan nak Naik Jimmy pulak.
Dia pun belasah dua2 enginiar tu.

Lepas ni Aku tak nak tengok korang Di office lagi. Macamana Kau nak ke site, Aku tak tau.
Tapi korang mesti bertanding dengan Moto ni.

Dulu sebelum tu masa Di company percon Corporation, project manager Aku dengan bengang nya keluar interview sorang fresh enginiar terus jumpa Dan bagitau Aku, gila betul enginiar tu. Ada Ka minta pajero dengan Aku nak pi site. Terok betul. Korang pun bawak jeep Jimny Saja.

Apa Komen korang sekarang ni?

Finally

Today 22.9.2017, we finally start bore hole first point at median of the road.
It was very long process and journey which sometimes us frustrated.

But that the reality of life during project execution. Not all plan happened smoothly.

Blaming game

Site team especially site engineer will be blame if anything goes wrong.

Poor premix work

Performance of premix patching by services contractor never improved since i start working 30 years ago.

They still lack of knowledge and skills workers to carry out the work. Even worse when premix send to site already cold and surely it wont be good when we compact with small plate compactor.

you are fired.

when projects  not run wells, change of person in-charge are immenient.

people left job or project with certain reason but when things not run smmothly or person become stumbling block, he will be removed.

i have seen before and  seen here again.

This project had gone one third of period already but progress was merely below ten persen. We had seen chief resident engineer, project managers been removed from their position. Even consultant also not save. Every layer are doing overhauling. Its unfortunate for certain people that fall into the above category.

hope the latest victim survived and project going to fly.

panic button

our current project now enter to eight month but nothing happened.

we still struggle to start physically. Approval of site and drawings still outstanding.

My normal experiance all issue above always resolve within four month after contractor enter site. Until now no panic button really been pressed.

My conclusion, leadership to drive the project to achive objective are most important. Until then, everybody will move within their own territory.

I feel miserabble and sick to wait for all this.

survey

survey works are important element in any projects.

be it before design stage, during designing, after contractor entering site, during construction and after completion.

we always have problems when we start work. its more complicated when we have many designer and contractors within one package. Luckily we have only one licened survey.

all survey works must accordance to malaysian jabatan ukur JUPM data.

starting project

we had enter second month on this project since 29th august 2016.

Starting projects always not an easy things. Furthermore when we are on joint venture which this is first time we are going to implement consolidate joint execution of project. Our first joint venture was being handover to one partner to execute.

First joint venture agreement which need to agree and give to client. Next was agreement how to separate the builders work. Which partner want to do this and that and equivalent to partner equity. This matter i found was very tiring exercise which finally took almost two months to resolve!!!

Next was finding contractor and consultant site office. It made worst when we had no area to construct site office and to settle with rental building along 2 kilometer of our site. And consultant show their 'lancy' not to accept our proposal.

After settle with location, now to arrange renovations, table, chairs and others equipments to made our site office a better place to work.

Practical training

Practical training is a must for engineering degree course.

During my study at UKM, our practical to be done during third year second semester.  Each students will be sent to engineering company selected by university.  During my time, two students for each company.  Most of companies are civil engineering consultant.

My friend, suntara and i was send to geotechnical consultant firm in Subang Jaya, GEA sdn bhd. 

We stay at ukm medical campus at kampung baru dan had to take bus every day to subang jaya.  We had to go out as early after suboh prayers to catch bus. Coming back from was more difficult as  Subang jaya at that time was very difficult and remote place not like today. If we miss bus, we had to wait for longer time. Later I bring back my motorcycle to commute from kl to subang.  Later I move to shah alam rent room with my office mate.

Last two months of training we was send to site office.  There was few engineers and supervisor which one of them I meet later when I start work at ipoh plus highway.
We learn so many things at site and one incident involving using mackintosh probe which I remember until today.
Mr resident engineer want us to carry out probe at filling area which we not aware that how hard was the compaction was. Normally mac probe was done at new or undisturbed area. After few hours hammering the probe, we cannot pull out the rod and had to call backhoe to help.

Actually what they done at Sime Uep was a controlled filling which newly implemented in the country.  This technique will allow immediate construction of house upon filling earth completed. Filling needed to filled at controlled thickness and testing will be carried out each layer.

Finally

After almost than six month prepare, submit and lobby two most prestigious elevated bridge, we finally secure one package at ampang site.
From five tender submitted, three been shortlisted which one was the lowest amount among tenderes and the other two being selected due to technical proposal.
Now enter another interesting phase where we are working how to run and manage project as joint venture at 70:30 share portion.
This is the first time I will involved from start to form jv at site and manage together.
Previously my involvement was either the majority control everything or under minority which been given less portion.

Next month will be very interesting and tricky situation. 
Even now I already feeling the heat.

excavation

This is another my favourite photo.

First excavation without proper shoring and safety marker.
Make the matter worst, the sand was sandy type. Difficult to handle, easier to collapse and danger to workers inside the pit.

secondly why excavation been done near road/
Actually this excavation been done to locate the actual damage of sewerage pipe after testing failed. During excavation, we found that sewer pipe is broken and need to be replaced.

Why broken?
Difficult to establish why it broken. maybe because its alignment was swing towards road area and affected by compaction during road construction.

Even turfing was not been able to prevent erosion.
